Press conference to shut down US Ecology South on 12/1/25
As a small 501(c)(3), any tax-deductible donation goes a long way to supporting our campaigns. Our coalition of residents and allies has pushed for the shut-down of industry that endangers our community's health. We host air filter workshops to protect residents when policy fails to deliver.
In 2024, our work to hold Republic Services accountable for odors and numerous violations at their Detroit South location led to a consent order of almost $1 million to benefit community projects near the facility. When this hazardous waste facility's operating license was up for renewal, our coalition showed up and pushed for stronger regulations, leading to a much more restrictive permit for this facility.
We're currently working to hold another polluter accountable: Kronos Concrete in the Sunnyside / Cadillac Heights neighborhood in Detroit. Residents have been bullied and pushed out of their homes, and the neighborhood has been flattened into a lifeless field of toxic dirt. Remaining residents have reported sinus infections, increased asthma symptoms, constant headaches and coughing. We've worked with JustAir to install air quality monitoring near the plant, to show the city the impacts of a concrete facility so close to homes and businesses. We need all the help we can get to demonstrate that we won't tolerate heavy industry poisoning our neighbors!
